Last weekend was my first Art Market in TR! It went really well! I'm signed up for 2 more and I'm going to try to do the Saturday Morning Market in downtown Greenville a few weekends as well. Also, I got a job teaching kindergarten art at the Fine Arts Center next week for an art camp! I'm soo excited! I'll have 2 classes of 16 5&6 year olds! This will be my first test to see if I will make a good art teacher!
thanks for the callback! been meaning to return your call and haven't had time to think straight. The glaze seemed to do fine for the most part. I had a hard time getting it to mature-- I think partly due to the electric kiln being tired and partly due to the glaze being too thin. I'll have to correct that before next time. All seemed to have ended well.
see you at the June anagama? I'm hoping to bust out some new stuff over the weekend and get it out to you all in time.
Hey Hey Lady! While I'm trying to overcome my sadness at missing NCECA this year..... let's try again next year?! Philly, anyone? It doesn't look like (though, who knows, really) my sister will still be living there by next year's NCECA.... I'm game for being a travel buddy, though!
Also, any talk or plans for a bowl a thon? I'd still like to contribute! Even if I can't make it, I can bowl a thon from artbomb.
and...... we should make plans for a martini night sometime soon.... I could use some inspiring art discussion with some super fabulous clay ladies!

Hey Sue! I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to talk the other night! It was so good to sit down and catch up a bit, laugh, reflect, and keep moving forward. Every time I look at your mother's cup, it serves as a reminder for me to pray for comfort in time and clarity. I admire how you continue to work things out in your work! What beautiful expression!
And I just realized why I wasn't getting the Vatagama emails-I hadn't "approved" my membership to the group! Haha! I'm on there now, so please keep me posted-but just in case-celticcreicher@yahoo.com. Thanks!
Have a blessed holiday season! Merry Christmas!!!
Hi Sue! Did anyone take pictures at the firing last weekend? If so can you ask them to post a few? Sorry I couldn't make it, I had (still have) much work to do. Hopefully I 'll catch the spring firing.
Hey Sue!! Just thinking of you... hope things are well! I'm planning on being around for the anagama, but I suspect we'll miss each other as usual. Let me know when you get a free night/weekend. I'd love to show you my new work and discuss (hoping it'll all be finished by Open Studios). I'm starting to get excited about it (that's a good sign, right?) and would love some informed intelligent clay focused feedback. I still miss having you around the studio!!

Hey Sue! I have a slew of bowls for you guys! I made them but never got them down to you in time! eak! I'll try and get them down there some time this semester.
Would you have recipe for "homegrown" that you could pass on? I'd like to do some glaze experimentation with it. I'm searching for matte/semigloss cone 6 glazes....any ideas? (though homegrown isn't matte)
Hey Sue,
You wouldn't happen to have a copy of the "rim project poster" would you? Or do you know where I can get one? I'm trying to gather new materials for my clay classes. Thanks!!
are you going to be back here tomorrow to inspect our awesome pottery coming from the kiln? jake and i went tonight to visit dear Sammy and we took a few pieces out that belonged to us. i recreated a kind of wood fired look on my pitcher and that vase which was nice...
hey lady! I am firing a bisque sometime this week... probably the latter part as I'm rushing to fit a bit more into it than originally anticipated... included are SS bowls. Let me know when you'd like me to drive them over to CU. I'll even glaze 'em for ya while I'm there!! hey hey!
hope you're hanging in there through the chaos. see ya soon enough.
ps. doesn't look like I'll have work for anagama as I'd originally planned. That work has undergone some failed experiments and due to deadlines postponed until this summer. ....hopefully have some things for fall firing.
No Asheboro for us- I spent four days in Seagrove last week-absolutely awesome- I love that place- ask them if the vessel is dead? ha-ha real people making real pots ( i would agree about isolation and limited vision for some though and reliance of community support)- we also have some guest this weekend. I have really enjoyed visiting with Mark Hewitt-and am picking up on some of his studio potter philosophies. I'm actually focusing on funtional pots now- we'll discuss at NCECA-can't wait to see you all-- I have an extra bed in Pittsburgh since Roger isn't coming if you have a student in need
I am not sure that I am going to make NCECA this year... too much happening at that time to get away.
In terms of your question, I do not think the vessel is dead but rather everything is reliant upon context and community of practice; to some people the vessel may have lost it meaning but it is really about how groups of people gather together, construct meaning and consequently support certain attitudes, beliefs and values about things; NCECA is a fine example.
Postmodernism provides the opportunity for many narratives to co-exist and thusly the world is organized in such a way that we can find groups of people who will support own inherent point of view; we can hang out with these people and find the support we need but the trick is not to stay hidden in the cave but to venture out once in a while and cross the sea of the unknown; for me that's called growth.
The problem that have is when the socially -constructed mythologies of the group become so prevalent or dominant that people become blinded and isolated to other ways of seeing the world, especially the oppositional or dialectical points of view that stand against what they are doing. It is easy in these communities of support to become stagnant and use the group as a barrier to protect ones self from the quickly changing world on the outside.
R U going to NCECA- see ya there if so-
by the way- thanks for your demo/visit last semester-
The kiln I showed you kicks major azz!!! You'll have to come back and fire!- Clean reduction pots in the front and nasty salty ash in the back for folks like myself!! Miss yall and you have to meet Lucy Boone Hyde-Tell Gary I said hey and to stop being so lazy-ha

I can't come to any of the First Friday stuff, nor be present at my own studio because I'm going to Jenny and Courtney's reception out here at school. They're my peps! I wouldn't miss it for the world. Can't be in two places at once, though I've tri…
