Hey friends,
I'm heading off to Taiwan to work as a visiting artist for the month vof sept.
it's Tainan,National university of the Arts and I've asked Sam Davis a second year grad to join in . we'll both be working as much as possible to get work done and take it all in. If I can remember the steps to post images I'll try to add them to the page and also BLOG a bit . Dennis I know your proud of me!
best, Mike
We landed in Taiwan sunday evening around 10 pm here it is tuesday evening and we still are waking at 4 or 5 in the am ,then tiered by 9pm, Tianan university of the arts is very impressive, remotly located aaway from Tainan by 45 minutes, we have the campus to ourselves right now, only the clay grads and and few faculty. classes will start soon and that will have given us some much appreciated time in the studio getting some new ideas out, as ussual both Sam and I are looking around for new inspiration and weighing the directions to take on in such a compressed time of a month. so we've been making some pots we are familiar with and branching from there. Chin yuan has made a great facility and is very accomodating and on top of the international field in asia. great to learn of the intensity and efforts going on .
The weather is not to be ignored 90's with 95% humidity, day and night, a cooler day would be 85 with some midday rain. so we work and sweat alot but the studio has filterd cold and boiling water to take tea or water to get one thru it all. the Taiwanese are happy to try their English on us, the grads are all eager to practice as it is required that they can manage English within the professional art world. so our mandarine is not growing all that fast.
all is new,,, the money ,the food ,the vegetation /jungle like sub tropical i expect. orchids in trees. vines flowering ,lotus outside my window and more stone concrete and clay textures than you can imagine.
i've attached a few photos more when i figure this all out. !
stay well and get to your studio fort the fun of it!!!
