Now that you mention the Museum, I have an idea : ) This December we are opening an exhibit called Eye to the East: The Turner Collection of Chinese Art, which will run through May 2009. This exhibition will highlight the more than 80 pieces of Asian sculpture and ceramics, spanning more than 3000 years, donated to the museum by Dr. Robert Y. Turner. While the majority of the show will trace the development of Chinese art, also included will be a few examples of Japanese ceramics. Guest Curator, Don Wood, Chief Curator and Curator of Asian Art, The Birmingham Museum of Art. I know you said you would return from your sabbatical in January. Would you be interested in doing a short demo for a group of special members here at the Museum in late February. You could speak about your travels to Taiwan, their culture, what you learned and create a few demo pieces for our guests. I spoke with our Programs Coordinator and she thought it was a great idea - just let me know. The end of February, like on a Friday afternoon would work - possibly Feb. 20th? I always enjoyed your demos and lectures and know our members' would enjoy it as well. I'm actually teaching an adult ceramics class here in Janaury too! I look forward to hearing from you Mike - take care! Meagan

cooling kilns,demos and wisdom?

Just finished a demo and talk for the Clay grads here. I statrted with Chun Yuan interpreting but soon it bercame all hands gestures and mime. It was fun..i enjoyed it although I'm not sure how much was understood. Sam ...well he's heard alot of it before so he had to laugh at the food and pottery stories ,the golden mean talk and the proportions of space along the axis of the pots. I did run on as the demo was simple so i found myself bringing up most any and all issues regarding clay history a… Continue

That is very weird -- particularly when they draw lines, then touch them and they make sounds!?! At first I wasn't sure I had seen that correctly.
