I can't come to any of the First Friday stuff, nor be present at my own studio because I'm going to Jenny and Courtney's reception out here at school. They're my peps! I wouldn't miss it for the world. Can't be in two places at once, though I've tri…

Steve, I don't have any images ready to upload right now, but I'll send you some soon and hope it helps. From the looks of your plate and the prints you've got a good handle on what it's about in general. I'd say you can be a bit more subtle with yo…

Steven, I too have been making collagraphs for quite some time. They can be wonderfully atmospheric or obsessively detailed. Let me know what you're looking for and we can go from there.

Wal-marty, I miss you all so much... so much it hurts. Bad. It hurts way down in the deep, dark water where where the light fails to penetrate. In the recesses untouched and unchanged since childhood... don't ask. Except Courtney. Courtney is dead to me. PS... I heart Tokyo. Will blog soon.

I will... it will be interesting to see the direction, considering the feedback. Oh yeah, and she totally is my better half, she actually signs the family Christmas cards that way...

Yeah, I don't know how I feel about them myself. They're missing something important I think. It's weird, I have a fair amount of half finished experimental stuff. . . and I'm not sure yet what deserves my studio time. I haven't had a truly finished piece since last Christmas. . . scary. But I'm allowing for some experiment and freedom. I do think, though, that its time for me to "get 'er done" so to speak. . . buckle down and finish a painting that I can stand behind. More work to be done as always. Missouri is going well. . . everybody is so nice and I've found a good many trails and parks to play in. School starts on Monday, so we'll see after that. Hope that everything is going well at CU! Enjoyed looking at your posted pics. The installation looks really interesting! Rock on, Marty!

Hey Marty, sadly not my work.... and sadly I don't recall the artist's name. Sue or Mike might remember. We saw that piece at NCECA Pittsburgh this past March-- I believe it's by a fairly well-known artist. Sam probably knows as well.

Who the #$&% is Jackson Pollock?

This is a movie review/recommendation of sorts. Check out the film "Who the #$&% is Jackson Pollock? (Netflix has it). I won't give away any of the story other than to say that we're in an interesting business and there are a whole bunch of opinions out there. Just a glimpse into the "art world" and the "non-art" world and what happens when they collide. And a good story of a good ole gal with some true grit.

check out ARTKRUSH

If you haven't yet looked at the April issue of ARTKRUSH (e-zine) you should. There's a bunch of interesting stuff in there that surfaced a bit during this last semester esp. in Seminar and Art History discussions. Plus a whole lot of BMW ads!! Hum... all that money has to buy some art, doesn't it?

CENSORSHIP REDUX NUMBER 2 (for Christina et al)

Those of us who went to the SGC conference and attended the presentation titled: "Printmakers in Wartime" will remember Daniel Heyman who did the interviews with prisoners from Abu Ghraib. Daniel and I show at the same gallery in Provincetown, MA and I've seen his other work, (referred to below). I emailed him and asked him about his experience with censorship. I got permission to copy part of his email here.
The following is from Daniel Heyman:

CENSORSHIP REDUX (for Christina et al)

This just came out in the online newsletter "Art-of-the-day" that I subscribe to (it's free). It points directly to our conversation in class yesterday and obliquely to my own work.
A question of animals
SAN FRANCISCO - In the California city, always a step ahead regarding environment protection groups, activists can cause some collateral victims. Adel Abdessemed is the most recent. The artist just had his exhibition at the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) canceled at the end of the month o

An interesting read...

Hey all, esp. the current grads. I've been carrying around a slip of paper that had written on it, in another persons handwriting, "Eleanor Heartney." I finally googled the name and came up with this woman who is a writer and critic for Art in America, etc. There's a really good article about today's "art climate" at the following link. check it out.
