Job Description:
Position: Assistant or Associate Professor in the Painting Program (tenure-track)
School of Art and Design
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation includes full benefits.

Start Date: September 1, 2010.
Duties:
• Teach 3 undergraduate Painting courses per semester
• Participate in the further development and coordination of the BFA Painting program; specifically, working with BFA Painting majors
• Pursue relevant personal research/creative activity and build a substantive exhibition/publication record
• Actively engage in service to the School, College, University, community and professional organizations
Candidates may apply for the Assistant or Associate Professor rank and must specify in the letter of intent for which rank they wish to be considered.
An Associate Professor appointment requires credentials in accordance with Texas State University -- San Marcos policy.
Assistant Professor Required Qualifications:
• MFA in Painting; must be completed before start of Fall 2010 semester
• University/college teaching experience
• Demonstrated success as a teacher, as evidenced by student accomplishments
• Strong formal and conceptual skills
• Personal research, demonstrated by a strong body of creative work
• Exhibition record, demonstrating professional/peer recognition of creative works
• Excellent communication skills
Assistant Professor Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of the history and contemporary practices of Painting
• Creative work which broadens the scope and range of perspectives within the School’s Faculty
• Service-related activities in undergraduate and graduate programs or professional organizations
• Knowledge of Macintosh computers and contemporary image manipulation
Associate Professor Required Qualifications:
• Currently holds the rank of Associate Professor of Painting
• M.F.A. in Painting
• Four or more years of successful teaching in Painting
• Demonstration of strong conceptual and aesthetic skills, as they apply to Painting
• Strong exhibition record, demonstrating national and international peer recognition of creative works
• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledge of, and experience with, computer-mediated technologies and core software applications, relevant to the Painting discipline, specifically Macintosh OS and Adobe Creative Suite
Associate Professor Preferred Qualifications:
• Graduate-level teaching experience
• Four years or more of professional studio experience in Painting
• Comprehensive lecture and presentation record
