34th Annual Juried Show

The Anderson Arts Center’s 34th Annual Juried Art Show will be held April 17th through May 29th, 2009. Entries will be accepted Friday and Saturday, March 27th and 28th from 10:00am to 4:00pm. This competition is open to all artists 18 years or older. Only original works of art not previously show at the Anderson Arts Center and created within the last two years are eligible. These works may be any medium with no size restrictions. For Aiken, Columbia, Camden, Rock Hill and Spartanburg, a special Art Shuttle Service will be provided prior to our accepting entries dates. Please refer to our prospectus for more information regarding the Art Shuttle Service.

The 34th Annual Juried Show Opening Reception will be held on Friday, April 17th at 7:00pm with a Champagne Preview Party at 6:00pm. Awards will be given out during the Opening Reception.

This years awards totals almost $10,000, which includes Merit, Photography, Fine Craft and Purchase Awards, including $1,000 for Best in Show. Individual or businesses interested in merit or purchase award sponsorship opportunities, please contact the Anderson Arts Center.

Gallery 3•1•3 will hold an art exhibition in conjunction with the 34th Annual Juried Show, which is another great opportunity for artists. Gallery 3•1•3 is located at 313 North Main Street, Anderson, SC 29621; just one block from The Arts Warehouse.

Two great events leading up to the opening reception will be available for starting, or extending, your private and corporate art collections. Member’s Preview will be held on Wednesday, April 1st from 5:30 to 9:30pm and is an unique event for our members to review over 600 pieces of artwork, with food and entertainment. m•ART•ket will be held on Thursday and Friday, April 2nd and 3rd, during our normal business hours to allow the community and visitors to view all works prior to the jurying process.

This year our juror is Michael W. Haga. Mr. Haga is Assistant Dean at the College of Charleston's School of the Arts. He is responsible for the School's administrative activities and budgets as well as special events and projects related to stewardship and educational and cultural programming. Mr. Haga received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Roanoke College and a Masters of Arts and Liberal Studies degree from Hollins College.
As an adjunct member of the faculty, Mr. Haga has taught Art History 101 since the Spring 1994 semester. He taught Introduction to Arts Management in the Spring 1998 semester and has been named Outstanding Adjunct Facility in Art History in 1999, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Mr. Haga has been involved with several arts organizations during his time at the College of Charleston. He has served on the boards of the Lowcountry Arts and Cultural Council, Print Studio South, and the South Carolina Artisans Center. He also has served on the Charleston County Magnet School of the Arts' School Governance Council and as Program Coordinator for the South Carolina Society of the Archaeological Institute of America. Mr. Haga has been a member of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau's Art Committee and served as President of the South Carolina Arts Alliance. He currently serves on the organization's Executive Committee and as co-chair of the International Council of Fine Arts Dean's Advocacy Taskforce.
Mr. Haga has written exhibition reviews for The New Art Examiner, Art Papers, Carolina Arts, and The Charleston City Paper. His interests have led him to serve as a slide juror and judge for exhibitions in the Southeastern United States, including the Piccolo Spoleto Craft Exhibition and a national exhibition for the Artisans Center for Virginia. Mr. Haga has served as a Visual Arts Grant panelist for the South Carolina Arts Commission and as a Crafts Fellowship panelist for the Oregon Arts Commission.
