A Distant Bauhaus Star

Margarete Heymann, who studied ceramics there from 1920 to 1921, and was as gifted and gutsy as her famous contemporaries. She also created an impressive body of work, yet is rarely mentioned in the many books, essays and exhibitions on the Bauhaus. Why?

“It’s a tragic story,” said Anja Baumhoff, a lecturer in a… Continue

FASA Halloween Party

FASA's annual Halloween Party included a pumpkin carving contest. Pumpkin seeds flew as artists sculpted their innovative and radical interpretations of the Jack O' Lantern!

Urs Fischer: Marguerite de Ponty

Urs Fischer, Noisette, 2009. Mixed mediums, dimensions variable. Courtesy the artist; Gavin Brown's enterprise, New York; Sadie Coles HQ, London, and Galerie Eva Presenhuber, Zurich.

"For his first large-scale solo presentation in an American museum, Urs Fischer has taken over all three of the New Museum’s gallery floors to create a series of immersive installations and hallucinatory environments...Each square inch of the Museum architecture has been photographed and reprinted as a wallpaper that covers the very same walls and ceiling, in a maddening exercise in simulation."

Yep. Graphite is conductive, so holding the pencil in one hand, then touching the line with the pther complete the circuit, which produces the sound.

That is very weird -- particularly when they draw lines, then touch them and they make sounds!?! At first I wasn't sure I had seen that correctly.
